Wet set

verbShop talkConcrete

To push anchor bolts, dowels or embeds into concrete after placing it, instead of fixing them in place beforehand.

A common shortcut on residential and light commercial work, especially for sill anchor bolts and slab dowels, where items are stabbed into the fresh concrete during finishing. It risks voids around the item, poor alignment and bars that miss their marks. Many specifications forbid it for structural embeds or require the inspector's approval and proper vibration around each piece.

Heard on the job

No wet setting the hold-down bolts on this one, the inspector wants them in templates before the first truck shows.
