Green bar

nounShop talkConcrete

Epoxy-coated rebar, named for its usual green coating, used where salt and chlorides threaten corrosion.

Reinforcing bar coated with fusion-bonded epoxy to keep salt and moisture off the steel, standard on bridge decks, parking decks and marine work. The coating only protects if it stays intact, so crews lift it with nylon slings, support it on plastic or coated chairs, tie it with coated wire and touch up every nick and cut end. Bare steel ties or chairs mixed into a green bar mat are a common inspection writeup.

Heard on the job

That's green bar on the deck, so no bare wire and no dragging it off the trailer, get the nylon straps.
