Jumpform

nounStandard termConcrete

A vertical formwork system that is lifted up the building in sections after each pour cures.

Jumpform is a type of climbing formwork used to construct tall vertical concrete elements like elevator cores, stair shafts, and bridge pylons. After a lift of concrete hardens, the entire formwork assembly is detached, raised by cranes or hydraulic jacks, and reattached to the newly cast concrete to pour the next level. This eliminates the need to dismantle and rebuild forms for every floor.

Heard on the job

The crane is scheduled to lift the jumpform on the central core at 0600 tomorrow.

Insider tip

Self-climbing jumpforms use integrated hydraulics, freeing up tower crane time for other lifts.
