Tingle

nounShop talkBuilding

A small support placed under a mason's string line to prevent it from sagging over long distances.

A tingle is a flat piece of metal, plastic, or even a scrap of brick used by bricklayers to hold up a string line on a long wall. It is temporarily bedded into a mortar joint midway along the course and the line is threaded over it. This prevents the line from sagging under its own weight, ensuring the brick courses remain perfectly straight and level.

That wall is over forty feet long, so set a tingle in the middle before you pull the line tight.
