A structural pocket built into a masonry wall to receive and support the end of a beam.

A recessed socket or metal housing set directly into a brick, block, or stone wall. It is designed to hold the end of a heavy timber or steel beam, transferring the load safely into the masonry while allowing the beam slight room to expand or contract.
