Earth brought in to raise the grade or fill depressions on a construction site.

Soil imported to a site or moved from another area to build up ground elevation, fill trenches, or create a level base for foundations. It is usually compacted in lifts to achieve a specific load-bearing capacity and prevent future settlement.

The surveyor says we need another twenty yards of fill soil to bring the pad up to final grade.
