Airline ticketing systems require coupons to be flown in sequence. If a passenger misses a connection or changes plans mid-journey, an agent must freeze the unused segment to prevent the automated system from canceling the rest of the downstream flights. Once the routing is fixed or the passenger is rebooked, the suspended coupon can be revalidated or exchanged.
I had to suspend the Denver segment so the system wouldn't cancel his return flight to London.
