Vertiport

nounStandard termAviation

A dedicated facility designed for the takeoff, landing, and servicing of vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.

A vertiport is an aviation facility built specifically to handle VTOL aircraft, such as helicopters, tiltrotors, and electric air taxis. Unlike traditional airports, vertiports do not require long runways, but they must have reinforced touchdown pads, clear approach paths, and passenger loading zones. They are typically integrated into dense urban environments or placed on top of commercial buildings to facilitate point-to-point urban air mobility.

The new electric air taxis will operate out of the downtown vertiport to bypass highway traffic.
