Venus Express (VEX) was the first Venus exploration mission of the European Space Agency. It spent years in polar orbit gathering comprehensive data on the dense, greenhouse-gas-rich atmosphere and surface characteristics of the planet before intentionally plunging into the atmosphere to burn up.
