Sector

nounStandard termAviation

A single flight leg from takeoff to landing, including the associated ground preparation.

A sector is one complete segment of an aircraft's routing, encompassing the pre-flight briefing, boarding, the flight itself, and the subsequent deplaning. Crew members track their duty limits by the number of sectors flown in a day, as the repeated cycles of takeoff, climb, descent, and landing induce more fatigue than cruising on a long-haul route.

We're scheduled for a four-sector day, bouncing between regional hubs before ending up in Dallas.
