Power-egg

nounStandard termAviation

A self-contained, modular engine package designed to be quickly swapped out of an aircraft as a single unit.

A power-egg is a complete, pre-assembled propulsion module that includes the engine, cowlings, cooling systems, and engine-driven accessories. Instead of mechanics unbolting individual components during an engine change, the entire pod detaches at a few standardized mounting points on the firewall or wing strut. This modular approach minimizes aircraft downtime, allowing a fresh power unit to be hoisted into place and connected with minimal rigging.

Heard on the job

We've a fresh power-egg built up in the hangar, so we can swap the bad engine on ship three in under two hours.
