RP-1 (Rocket Propellant-1) is an aviation-grade kerosene stripped of sulfur and complex hydrocarbons to prevent it from polymerizing or leaving soot deposits inside rocket engine cooling channels. It is typically burned with liquid oxygen (LOX) in first-stage booster engines. It offers a high density and room-temperature stability, making it easier to handle than cryogenic fuels like liquid hydrogen.
