Straight-piped

adjectiveShop talkAutomotive

Describing an exhaust system that has been stripped of its mufflers and emissions equipment.

A vehicle condition where the exhaust gases flow directly from the engine block to the atmosphere through unrestricted pipes. A straight-piped car produces a harsh, extremely loud exhaust note and fails standard emissions tests. Mechanics often see this modification on track cars or rural trucks where noise ordinances are loosely enforced.
