Clutch pedal

nounStandard termAutomotive

The floor-mounted control operated by the driver to engage or disengage the clutch.

The leftmost pedal in a manual transmission vehicle, used by the driver to manually control the clutch assembly. Pressing the pedal actuates a master cylinder or a mechanical cable, pulling the release bearing against the pressure plate to decouple the engine from the gearbox.

Heard on the job

The clutch pedal is sinking straight to the floor, so check the master cylinder for leaks.
