Bracketry

nounShop talkAutomotive

The collection of metal mounts, braces, and hardware used to secure components to a vehicle.

The assorted stamped metal pieces, braces, and mounting hardware required to attach accessories, body panels, or engine components to the vehicle chassis. In custom fabrication or engine swaps, creating proper mounting structures is often the most time-consuming part of the job.

Heard on the job

I found the alternator, but all the original bracketry is missing so we'll have to fabricate custom mounts.

Insider tip

Never throw away old bracketry until a project is completely finished; sourcing replacement factory mounts for older vehicles is notoriously difficult.
