Mill and fill

phraseShop talkAsphalt

A resurfacing job where the old surface is milled off and repaved with new mix, often the same day.

Rehabilitation in which the top inch or more of worn pavement is removed with a milling machine and replaced with an equal thickness of new mix, keeping curb reveal, drainage and bridge clearances unchanged. On city streets the milled lane is usually repaved the same shift so traffic is not left on a rough cut. Crews tack a milled surface heavier than fresh asphalt because its texture soaks up more.
