The lowest or shortest point of a bevel cut, most commonly referenced in roof framing and brace joinery. When a carpenter cuts an angle across a board, the heel is the sharp corner left on the short side of the angle, opposite the toe. Accurate layout relies on measuring to the heel to ensure the piece seats correctly against its mating surface without gaps.
