Respot

nounShop talkWelding

An additional spot welding operation performed after the initial assembly tacks.

A respot is a secondary resistance spot welding cycle used to add structural strength to a previously tacked assembly. In automotive manufacturing, robots or operators first apply a few spot welds to hold the sheet metal panels in alignment. The assembly then moves to a respot station where the remaining required welds are placed to achieve full mechanical strength.

The line stopped because the respot robot on station four missed a flange.
