Resistance process in which copper alloy electrodes squeeze overlapping sheets while thousands to tens of thousands of amps flow for a fraction of a second, melting a nugget at the interface. No filler or gas is used. It is the dominant joining method for car bodies and appliances, and quality is checked by peel or chisel tests and nugget diameter. Worn, mushroomed electrode tips are the usual cause of undersize nuggets.
