A welder qualified to make welds under a governing code, such as pressure vessel, piping or structural work.

Shop title for a welder with current qualifications to a code for pressure, piping or structural work, whose welds are inspected and often get NDE. It separates code work, where procedures, certs and inspection apply, from general fabrication and repair. Code welders usually earn more and stamp their welder ID next to each weld so every joint can be traced back to them.
