A specialized piece of testing equipment that emits high-velocity neutrons into a roofing system. Because water contains high amounts of hydrogen, the neutrons collide with the hydrogen atoms, slow down, and bounce back to a detector in the gauge. The device counts these returning thermal neutrons to map out hidden moisture beneath the membrane, helping crews target areas for removal.
