Stroke

verbStandard termValves

To run an automated valve through its full travel to prove it moves, seats and reports position correctly.

As a noun, stroke is the full travel from closed to open, and stroke time is how long that takes. As a verb, stroking a valve means commanding it open and closed, watching the travel, timing it, and confirming the limit switches and position feedback match. Valves are stroked after maintenance, before startup, and on a schedule for shutdown valves.
