centikatal

unitStandard termUnits

A derived metric unit of catalytic activity representing one hundredth of a katal.

This biochemical unit quantifies the amount of a catalyst needed to convert one hundredth of a mole of substrate per second. The base katal is extremely large for practical laboratory work, making fractional units necessary. Even so, most enzyme assays rely on microkatals or nanokatals rather than this specific multiple.

Heard on the job

The batch assay showed an unexpected activity spike of nearly two centikatals.
