WOF

abbreviationStandard termTextiles

Width of fabric, the measurement from one selvage edge to the other.

Width of fabric is the crosswise dimension of a textile as it comes off the bolt, measured from selvage to selvage. Most standard quilting cottons have a WOF of 42 to 44 inches, while home decor fabrics often measure 54 inches. Pattern instructions use this metric to calculate how many strips or pieces can be cut from a given yardage.
