Narrow cloth

nounStandard termTextiles

A historic classification for woolen fabrics woven at a narrower width than broadcloth.

Woven cloth, particularly woolen fabric, produced on a single-width loom requiring only one weaver. It typically measures less than 54 inches across, in contrast to broadcloth which required two weavers to throw the shuttle back and forth. The distinction dictated loom setup, labor costs, and pattern cutting efficiency.

The pattern layout has to be adjusted because we're cutting from narrow cloth instead of the usual 60-inch rolls.
