Herringbone

nounStandard termTextiles

A twill weave fabric featuring a distinctive V-shaped zigzag pattern.

A broken twill weave that produces a continuous pattern of V-shapes resembling the skeleton of a herring fish. The alternating diagonal lines are created by reversing the direction of the twill at regular intervals. It is widely used in tailoring for suits and outerwear because it drapes well and hides soil.
