Grams per denier (GPD) is a standard metric used to express the breaking tenacity of a synthetic fiber or yarn. It is calculated by dividing the breaking load in grams by the linear density of the yarn in denier. High-performance industrial fibers require a high GPD to ensure they will not snap under heavy tension during weaving or end-use.

This new batch of aramid thread tests at 22 GPD, which is more than enough tensile strength for the ballistic vests.
