Couching

nounStandard termTextiles

An embroidery technique where decorative threads are laid on the fabric surface and tacked in place.

A surface embroidery method used to attach cords, braids, or metallic threads that cannot easily pass through the base fabric. A primary thread is arranged in a pattern on the right side of the work, while a thinner working thread emerges from the back to stitch over and anchor the laid thread at regular intervals.
