Sod's law

phraseShop talkShop Slang

The principle that if something can go wrong, it will go wrong at the worst time.

A cynical axiom cited by workers when bad luck strikes a project. It dictates that a dropped screw will always fall into the most inaccessible crevice, or that a machine will only break down when the backup is already in the shop. It is the British equivalent of Murphy's law.
