Gimped

adjectiveShop talkShop Slang

Describes a machine or system that is crippled or operating at reduced capacity.

Describes equipment, software or a mechanical system that has been functionally crippled or restricted. This happens when a critical component fails, or when a manufacturer intentionally limits performance through software limits or physical restrictors. A system in this state can still run, but only at a fraction of its normal output or efficiency.

Heard on the job

The compressor is gimped right now because the primary valve is stuck open, so don't push it past 50 psi.
