Roomette

nounStandard termRailroad

A compact, private sleeping compartment on a passenger train.

A small, enclosed private room in a passenger sleeping car, traditionally designed for a single traveler but sometimes fitted with bunk beds for two. It features fold-away beds, basic seating, and often a concealed toilet and washbasin. Roomettes maximize the number of paying sleeper passengers a railroad can fit into a single car while still offering privacy.
