Private siding

nounStandard termRailroad

A track branching off the main railway that belongs to a specific customer.

A spur track owned and maintained by a private industry rather than the railroad. It allows freight cars to be spotted directly at a factory, elevator, or warehouse for loading and unloading. The railroad delivers cars to the siding's boundary, and the facility handles the rest, sometimes using their own small switcher locomotives.

Heard on the job

The local will drop those three empty gons at the private siding before heading back to the yard.
