Match wagon

nounStandard termRailroad

A flatcar placed adjacent to a crane to support the overhanging boom during transit.

A piece of rolling stock coupled directly to a rail-mounted crane or oversized load to provide clearance for an extending jib or boom. It carries no payload of its own, serving entirely to protect the crane and the adjacent cars from strikes on curves.
