The driving van trailer is a British railway vehicle placed at the opposite end of a train from the locomotive. It features a full driver's cab to operate the locomotive remotely via trainline cables, plus a secure compartment for luggage or parcels. This setup allows push-pull operation without needing to move the locomotive to the other end of the train at terminals.
Heard on the job
The DVT is leading on the northbound run, so the locomotive will be pushing from the rear.
