The total volume or weight of freight required to fill a single railcar.

A commercial shipment of freight large enough to fill a standard railcar, or the physical contents of that car. Railroads sell freight service primarily by the carload, making it the basic unit of rail commerce. It represents a bulk quantity far exceeding truckload capacities, often weighing between 70 and 115 tons.
