A loop or parallel siding in an underground rail system that permits a locomotive to detach from the front of a string of mine cars, travel past them, and reattach at the rear. This track arrangement prevents bottlenecks at loading stations and shaft bottoms by allowing continuous traffic flow without reversing long trains.
