A specific type of liptinite maceral found in coal, formed from the fossilized cuticles of ancient terrestrial plants. It is highly resistant to decay and rich in hydrogen, making it an excellent source material for generating liquid hydrocarbons during thermal maturation. Under fluorescent microscopy, it typically glows a distinct yellow or orange.
