Dreikanter

nounStandard termMining

A wind-eroded rock or pebble featuring three distinct, polished facets meeting at sharp edges.

A type of ventifact formed in arid, desert environments where prevailing winds blow abrasive sand against loose surface rocks. Over long periods, the sandblasting wears flat faces into the stone. When the wind direction changes or the rock shifts, multiple intersecting planes are cut, creating a characteristic three-ridged pyramid shape.
