A sweep replaces a solid physical pattern for massive, rotationally symmetrical castings like bells, gears, or vats. It consists of a central pivot post and a radial arm holding a profiled board. As the molder rotates the arm around the post, the board scrapes wet loam or sand into the exact negative shape of the desired casting, saving massive amounts of pattern-making wood.
Set up the sweep in the floor pit so we can start building the loam core for the new bell.

- Strickle: The sweep is the entire rotating jig assembly, while the strickle is the specific shaped board attached to it.
