Slaggability measures how easily the gangue minerals in an ore react with fluxes to form a fluid, low-melting-point waste layer. High slaggability means the impurities separate cleanly and drain easily from the furnace. Poor slaggability results in viscous, sticky slag that traps metallic droplets and risks clogging the taphole or forming scaffolds.
Heard on the job
We need to increase the limestone flux to improve the slaggability of this high-silica iron ore.
