Moulder

nounStandard termMetallurgy

A foundry worker who packs sand around patterns to create the molds for casting metal.

This tradesperson prepares the cope and drag, sets the cores, and cuts the gating system to ensure molten metal flows correctly. The job requires a deep understanding of sand properties, metal shrinkage, and fluid dynamics. A highly skilled moulder can prevent casting defects before the metal is even poured.
