An identifying mark, serial number, or structural impression pressed into a piece of metal while it is glowing hot. Because the metal is highly ductile at this temperature, the stamp displaces material easily without causing stress fractures or requiring the immense force needed for cold stamping.
Heard on the job
Make sure the hot stamp is clearly visible on the flange before you send it to the cooling bed.
