Forgeability

nounStandard termMetallurgy

The ability of a metal to undergo plastic deformation without cracking.

A measure of how easily a metal can be shaped by hammering or pressing before it fractures. Metals with high forgeability can withstand severe deformation and complex die shapes without developing internal tears or surface cracks. It depends heavily on temperature, alloy composition, and the speed of deformation.

The forgeability of this 7075 aluminum drops off a cliff if the die temperature gets too low.
