A geometric property of a structural section that dictates how it responds to shear forces. If a load is applied through this point, the beam will bend purely in the direction of the force without any torsional rotation. For non-symmetrical shapes like channel or angle iron, this point lies outside the physical material and must be calculated to prevent unwanted twisting under load.
