Screen

nounStandard termMechanical

A porous barrier made of woven wire or perforated metal used to filter fluids and block large debris.

A physical filter placed in flow lines, intakes, or sumps to catch solid contaminants before they reach sensitive components. It allows liquids or gases to pass freely while trapping particles that exceed the mesh size. Engineers specify these based on wire diameter, open area percentage, and maximum allowable pressure drop.
