A mechanical catch or interlock designed to prevent the accidental actuation of a machine or tool.

A dedicated locking mechanism that physically blocks a trigger, lever, or switch from moving. Safeties are built into dangerous equipment to require a deliberate, often two-step action from the operator before power or force is released. They protect users from unintended firing, dropping, or starting of machinery.
