H-piece

nounStandard termMechanical

A pipe fitting or pump manifold shaped like the letter H, used to route fluid flow.

A junction in a piping system or a heavy-duty plunger pump that connects parallel lines or houses valve assemblies. In historic mining pumps, it was a massive cast-iron section containing the clack valves that directed water up the rising main. In fluid power, it allows cross-flow or pressure equalization between two circuits.

Heard on the job

Isolate the circuit and pull the check valve out of the H-piece for inspection.
