Fulcrum

nounStandard termMechanical

The stationary pivot point around which a lever rotates.

A physical hinge, pin, or sharp edge that supports a lever and acts as the center of rotation. The distance from the applied force to this point determines the mechanical advantage of the system. Moving it closer to the load increases lifting force but reduces the distance the load travels.

Heard on the job

If you move the fulcrum an inch closer to the pry bar's tip, you'll get enough leverage to pop that bearing out.
