A protruding cylindrical or localized raised pad on a casting, forging, or molded plastic part. It provides extra material thickness to support threaded holes, locate mating parts, or act as a bearing surface without increasing the wall thickness of the entire component. Engineers design these features to distribute mechanical loads safely at attachment points.
