Used as a directional modifier to describe anything situated on the windward side of a vessel. The weather side takes the brunt of the wind and spray, making it the more exposed and physically demanding position. It dictates right-of-way rules in sailing and determines how a captain approaches a dock or another vessel.
Heard on the job

Insider tip
Always spit, throw garbage, or empty buckets over the downwind side, never the weather side, unless you want it blown right back in your face.
